Video: Drowning
Stimuli:
We at times are so occupied with what others might think of us that we lose our own color of speech. Like most of the videos of this project, this is another angle of expression of my frustration with words. At times I found my own words drowning amongst other people's that I feel mute. When it comes a time that I need to express my feeling, I choke as if my words have drowned.
The Design:
I wanted to utilize all the scrap fabrics left from the National Theatre. I decided to cut it all and ask the performer to perform with it. I thought it would help with the Butoh inspired performance. The shredded fabric represented river of words that the performer is drowning in.
I felt the initial improvised look was quite successful for this video. I redesigned the costume based on the video with my fancy for lovely textiles. I used Rinpa master's works for the textiles of this design. The layers of fabric represents the feel of the water, which was the initial concept.
