Video: The Inanimate

Stimuli:

I like to think that all that exist are a spirited being that deserves respect. Perhaps this world that we live in became wasteful for lot of us disregard the inanimate beings as easily disposable. They do not scream pain or express any life that the insensitives can understand.
Who are we to know that rustling sound of the leaves is a scream of help? How are you to be so sure that you've been ignorant of the pain of a tree that you pass by everyday? Perhaps it won't change anything even if we understood. What matters is that more people consider the possibility of pain of the inanimate and learn to respect all that surrounds us.

The Design

I always had a fancy for the organic shapes of the trees. Perhaps it is due to all the runaway novels that I read as a child involving nature. The trees always seem to have a big part in these novels. I had a bag full of scrap fabrics from the National Theatre. I wanted to utilize this with the Tree Hand object made out of recycled bits from a previous installation project. Naturally, the character for this video expressing pain of an inanimate became a tree.

Then I went on to do an edited version of the character image. Decided to name her after the puppet her hands were taken off of: Ghilli Du.
