Video: Lost
Stimuli:
When you are in pain, you feel as if your emotions are without a map, without a reference, purely lost for expression. It is as if your emotions are encaged without any light. Your pain, lost inside the concept of expressing itself, is stuck. You struggle to light up this black hole in your emotion. You explore what it seems to be a very small space. You reach out and scream, but get frustrated for nothing seems to get better. Yourself is your enemy. The frustration of not knowing what this pain is makes you want to jump out of your skin. You hate yourself. But then you realize that it is only yourself you have at the end. This struggle is yours, and no one can figure this out for you. It is your solo task to come in terms with the pain of being lost.
The Design:
An outcast girl who didn't have a chance to develope any social skill was my initial concept for the character. I came up with the concept while walking on Oxford Street in London. It seemed like everyone was either on his or her mobiles, busily heading to meet someone. I felt as if I was the only one without purpose to my walk or have someone to meet.
Following was a quick sketch I done for the performer to be inspired from.

I associate big tangled hair with a character without a sense of what to do with them. Perhaps influenced by the awkward Edward Scissorhands with a beautiful inner life. I wanted the character to have many layers of clothing on as if it was an armor.

On the recent re-design, I figured the coat and an androgynous male performer was the way to go. The coat adds style to the character and the androgynous adds a touch of mystery and universality. Here are two ideas for the coat design.
